2Cool Art Show 2014

The Professional Association of Visual Artists (PAVA) joined with the City of Gulfport and the Downtown Merchant Association to host the 2Cool Art Show. This juried fine art and fine craft show took place on Saturday, February 8th and Sunday February 9th 2014. Thirty‐eight juried artists exhibited within the Gulfport Casino, located at 5500 Shore Blvd. on the waterfront in Gulfport. An invitation from the City of Gulfport encouraged this new show to emerge – an event that showcases the artistic work of PAVA’s statewide members. Since 2012, the City of Gulfport and the city’s Merchant Association have been delighted with the response from the community and asked us to come back for a third show.

For the past 25 years art patrons have enjoyed PAVA’s July Cool Art Show in St. Petersburg. Susan Rollins Gehring, President of the Professional Association of Visual Artists (PAVA) said she is proud to be co‐sponsoring this event with the City of Gulfport in a historic building that has been referred to as the “heart and hub” of Gulfport. 2Cool Art Show’s proximity to Valentine’s Day provided an excellent opportunity to find that special fine art gift for your special person. This was also a chance for our winter visitor/resident to see the quality of work that PAVA has been presenting for the past 25 years during the summer Cool Show.

Cool Art Show Celebrates 25 years in St. Petersburg

It was Cool inside the Coliseum at the annual Cool Art Show July 20 – 21, 2013!

The Cool Art Show arrived in the midst of summer, oblivious to heat and storms. This is a juried fine art and craft event displaying high caliber work from 80 local and statewide artists, hosted by PAVA, the Professional Association of Visual Artists.  All artwork is made in America – hand created by the artist and for sale. A remarkable collection of visual and functional creations in paint, wood, ceramics, photography, metal, glass, mixed media and jewelry. PAVA continues its tradition of representing distinction across the spectrum of artistic media.

Cool Art has grown in 25 years from its beginnings as an outlet for artists and the public in the slow summer, to a outstanding highly respected show establishing it as a not to be missed art event. In celebration of our 25 years a commemorative T-Shirt created by Denis Gaston, one of the founders of Cool Art, is still available for sale for $10. Contact us for more information.
PAVA is a not-for-profit, artist run organization. It is composed of artists from throughout the state of Florida and Eastern United States.  It has been in existence for over 25 years. PAVA hosts several art shows each year, including the Annual 2Cool Art at the Gulfport Casino in February.

2013 2Cool Art Show in Gulfport

Cool Artists - 2Cool Art Show 2012
2Cool Art Show- February 9th & 10th 2013
Gulfport Casino 5500 Shore Blvd.
Gulfport, Fl. 33707

The Second Annual 2Cool Art Show was held February 9 and 10, 10 am to 5 pm, inside the Gulfport Casino, 5500 Shore Boulevard, Gulfport, FL. The show is presented by The Professional Association of Visual Artists (PAVA) in collaboration with the City of Gulfport. Parking and admission is free for this event located on Gulfport’s scenic waterfront and adjacent to downtown shops and restaurants.

With the resounding success of the first show in 2012, the City of Gulfport and its Merchant Association invited PAVA and its members to return for a second year. This is a juried fine art and craft event displaying high caliber work from 40 local and statewide artists. All artwork is made in America – hand created by the artist and for sale.

Susan Rollins Gehring, President, said PAVA is proud to be co-sponsoring this event with the City of Gulfport. Commenting on the 2Cool Art Show’s proximity to Valentine’s Day, she said shoppers can find a fine art gift for their loved one. In addition, weather wasn’t a deterrent because the show is held indoors in the historic building that has been referred to as the “heart and hub” of charming downtown Gulfport.

PAVA is a not-for-profit, artist run organization. It is composed of artists from throughout the state of Florida and Eastern United States. It has been in existence for over 25 years. PAVA hosts several art shows each year, including the upcoming 25th Annual Cool Art at the St. Petersburg Coliseum in July.

Award Winners from the PAVA Members Show at the Leepa-Rattner Museum

Please stop by the Leep- Rattner Museum to see all the fine work in this show.

This comment is from the judge Pamela Miles:

September 19, 2012

Dear PAVA Members:

It was a pleasure to jury the PAVA exhibition at the Leepa-Ratner Museum today. Susan asked me to talk a little about my philosophy in general and the award winners specifically.

I chose artworks for the Honorable Mention awards that I felt were “telling a story” in a fresh new way and/or that were done in a very competent manner:

Ira Burhans for “Dancing Bottle”

Yvette Galliher for “The Pink Punk”

Lynn Foskett for “Just Like That”

Susan Rollins Gehring for “Reflections”

Bruce Ferguson for “Extreme Low Tide”

Melissa Miller Nece for “The Sculptress”

Ron Brischetto for “Terrascape 4”

Cathy Morgan for “Vision of a Forest”

Linda Renc for “The Cloud Dragon”

Judith Heady for “Eggs-tra Terrestrial Surprise”

The Third Place award was given to Joan Duff-Bohrer for “Mother Bird”. Her painting felt natural and free yet communicative. Out of the box and loose. Impactful.

The Second Place award was given to Jim Throne for “Spider Lady”. It told a story but what? The viewer was left to put the pieces together in his/her own way. His imagination, composition and uniqueness needed to be awarded.

The First Place award was given to Candace Ripoli for her exquisite drawing entitled “Repose in Light”. I loved the beautifullyrendered figure where the whole story was not told, leaving a bit of mystery. The mostly monochromatic rendering with just the tiny bits of color was such a bold approach.

The Best of Show award was given to Stephen Schatz. This portrait’s simplicity coupled with the ability to communicate emotion won my undivided attention.  Complete but not overdone. Small in size but large in impact. Skillfully painted.
