In her work, Debra explores our relationships to nature, addressing themes related to boundaries, connections, sense of place, memory, and identity.
To create her images, Debra invokes the environment she knows and loves—organic, rich, and tangled— embracing the unkemptness of weeds, wild flowers, murky water, needle grass, and palmetto. Plying the backwaters that are right in her own backyard, Debra raids a treasure chest of pattern, texture and form. Debra employs a variety of printmaking techniques, including monotype, relief, and intaglio, enhanced with collage and drawing in graphite and colored pencil.
