Meeting Date
PAVA Board Meeting Minutes
October 17, 2007
In attendance: Susan Rollins Gehring, Barbara Kampe Hanson, Melissa Miller Nece, Bill Scott, Steven Schatz, Jenna Star Friedman
- Discussion of future exhibitions:
- Ruth Eckerd Hall - available to Pava for summer -June, July, August - 2008. Room for approximately 41 pieces - ½ of downstairs section and 1 section upstairs. Plan to be a Members-Juried show with cash awards, can charge entry fee to help with prize money -- Must consider content appropriateness (no nudes) as families/children present for summer programs.
- Belleview Biltmore - may be available for future shows, but may be closing down for construction of underground parking. Possibly nice area for outdoor show, w/tents etc.
- Downtown Clearwater - new possible venue for outdoor art, street shows. Desire of Clwtr to make it a cultural/artistic center and bring people downtown-- inviting Pava to be a part of this. Discussion of possibly including art, music, writing (haiku on trees example)
- Cool Art - This year's show (2007) was well received and successful. Dates for 2008 are July 19 & 20. Connie has expressed that she will lead it again if she has same good support she had this year. Submissions now have to be digital format.
- Florida orchestra - maybe do something as joint effort to promote each other? Discussion of possible ideas -- Need to check on their union requirements.
- Pava's WEB site
- Thumb-nails - will be available on member listing page. Checked Barbara's prototype example online on web page These look good and should encourage more traffic to each artist. Discussion of pricing to pay for adding this -- Members to be charged $15 for adding just the thumb-nail picture; and $40 a year for Gallery page, which includes the thumb-nail posting.
- Blog - Dennis is doing good job at writing articles for this; not a lot of responses/feedback from others however.
- Membership/Meetings
- Attendance - Discussion of attendance at monthly meetings; types of topics and speakers that bring valuable information. Instead of monthly meetings may be better to make them quarterly. How to get more, and possibly younger, artists involved in Pava--scholarship ideas, mentor/mentee program?
- Newsletter - Discussion of plan for newsletter to come out two times a year; on-line vs. hard copy for newsletter; getting articles to put in it.
- Next meeting is Holiday Party on Tuesday, Nov. 13.
- Need to conduct poll for members about 1) having quarterly or monthly meetings, and 2) having newsletter come out as hard copy or online.
- New Board Members
- Robin Popp has stepped down from Secretary position due to time constraints; Jenna Star Friedman has agreed to be new Pava Secretary.
- Susan brought up that it may be time to think about her stepping down from President position due to need to be out of town more often; members discuss who could take over that role; contact with Susan can always be made through email and phone; decision that she will continue position for now.
Respectfully submitted,
Jenna Star Friedman
