Jo-An Thomas - Chinese Brush Painting

Jo-An Frances (Thomas) came to appreciate the ancient art form Chinese Brush Painting and Sumi-e while traveling in Japan and China, where her cousin was U. S. Consul General to China. Back home in Massachusetts, at the Cohasset Art Center, she brought Chinese master painters from China and the U.S. to teach workshops. Today, she is a member of The Sumi-e  Society of America, the St. Petersburg Art Alliance, the Morean Arts Center, and Suntan Beach Center.  She teaches at the Morean Arts Center, Suntan Arts Center in downtown St. Petersburg, Florida, and the Indian Rocks Beach Art Center.

 Recently, Judge Denise Cormier Mahoney, an artist with a studio in the warehouse district, and president of NAWA.  National Assoc. of Women Artists. Florida Chapter, Awarded her 1st Place, “Summer Peony- The grace and balance of this piece shows a mastery of technique.”

Inspiration

 Jo-An studied over the past 35 years with various Master painters, including Ning Yeh, Ph.D.,  Henry Wo Yue-Kee, Diana Kan,  Zhuo HeJun, Wenda Gu, and her first teacher, Ellie Avakian. She continues to study under Ning Yeh's mentee, Mayee Futterman.
